Thomas Hobbes in Racist Context

چکیده

Abstract Is it anachronistic to talk about racism in Hobbes? After all, is usually seen as biological: the disliked group must have innate characteristics which are inherited biologically. This mostly said be a modern idea. Yet biological can found medieval and early times, with Spanish doctrine of limpieza de sangre (cleanliness/purity blood). Racism, including racism, was much more common Hobbes’s England than we might think, texts he may read; language race hardly uncommon either. Moreover, someone called racist whether or not their dislike based on that biologically, I argue. Whether Hobbes remains open debate; this paper offers evidence both for against proposition. But should reject question anachronistic.

I finally asked my attending to be reassigned. He said that I was a physician and must fulfill my responsibilities to my patient regardless of who and what he was. My personal feelings were immaterial. My attending was right. Jain’s...
